El Segundo Star Party (March 24th, 2017)

On Friday March 24th, we took part in the annual El Segundo Star Party. It's been going on for at least 10 years now and it's been a great event with my club, the South Bay Astronomical Society, and the city of El Segundo. They give us the top level of a parking structure at a park for the observing session. They advertise it really well in the local papers so we have a big crowd. This year's crowd was a bit small with maybe 600-700 people because it was partly cloudy and very windy and cold. But we managed to find good things to show people and it was a lot of fun as it always is for us.

This year was a bit different in that the local cable channel came out to do a news story on the event. Check it out at the link below. The very first telescope you see is mine. The reporter interviewed us before things really got underway. It's amazing to see the final footage after the really nice editing job they did. Of course, being in the dark, it was difficult for the camera to capture the crowd. They had some snippets of my interview interspersed in the video. Check it out!
